First Thoughts

So, I saw the hashtag "earlypalooza on the "Lets Get Social" thing, but I thought it referred to something they had done before the wedding. Only just today, did I connect it with their last name!

As it happens, the bride and groom are quite busy at a wedding, and some of the best visiting happens not so much with them, as around them.

Spending Friday morning with Sandy, and Val and Nick, was just a real treat. I don't get much time with them, and we just kind of caught up and relaxed in each other's company. Sitting on the deck at the apartment Nick and Val had rented was a good time. We talked about Nick's work, and naming drinks, and how important that was. We stopped on the sidewalk, in the middle of our walk, and just visited, with Barry telling us about something. The kids are very excited about Barry's boat project.

Mark called him a Rennaisance Man. .... all his varied interests.

It was fun to meet Diana, Valerie's best friend, and her husband. I think his name his Lance. He works in the office of the senator from Wyoming.

Our walk back to toward the hotel was interesting, and Barry didn't seem too uncomfortable --- partly because I didn't fuss about the crocs. I need to get him some socks that match the crocs.

I'm glad Daddy called us for a visit... I kinda wish Barry and I had already had lunch, too, so that I wouldn't have been worried about his blood sugar, but I was still glad that he called.

Mark went over the handlebars on a bike ride in New Mexico. Daddy said he'd about decided that Mark ought to avoid things on two wheels, and stick to jumping out of airplanes. He said that Mark had over 400 jumps in before he even knew that Mark was doing it. I was surprised that he had jumped over 400 times. Daddy's words have replayed .... a kind of hurt.

Barry responded to my first request to dance. Course, he also said he had two drinks before he ever brought one to the table so that might have had something to do with it.

Daddy going to get Valerie for a dance.

Nick came and sat by me. I think he might have been thinking about us having a dance. It crossed my mind, but I was a little shy on that.

I worried about Sandy and the wedding, but it did not seem to highlight that Mark was remarried and she was not. It wasn't hidden, but it wasn't underlined. I wish her life had worked out better.

When Mark and Cheri told me that Kelly said "I'm glad you are a part of our family. You are perfect for him." I could feel something in me settle. A possible acceptance.

I was sorry that Kathi and Johnny drank at the reception. Sorry that once again that had to be a part of it all. Sorry to see Kim scowling and pouting at the table. Sorry I missed seeing Kelly and Ryan cut the cake.

Happy to hear our song in the playlist.

Happy not to have forgotten my foundation, or need to find a pair of shoes. Happy to have felt somewhat prepared. I need fancy flats and a pair of stockings  that fit. That dress is just a mess in the back, and that is unfortunate. But I was very happy that I had on my pretty outfit when I saw Daddy that morning.

I was glad to get to stand by the window and watch the fireworks with him. Happy to have him still looking out for me, even if I am 61.

Happy to get off the property and out of the work rut. Happy to think that we can get back to Chicago again, and so no real push to see any particular thing.
